Great win in the FAI Junior Cup today for Castleknock Celtic. Clondalkin Celtic came to Porterstown with a lot of confidence on the back of an unbeaten start to their league campaign and scoring 20 goals in their 4 games played. But even without 6 regulars, Castleknock were ready for this important game. If exchanges were even for the first 20 mins or so, when Castleknock made the breakthrough with a fine finish from John Byrne from just inside the box, there was an air of confidence around Porterstown Park that the home side could win the day. 

Clondalkin came back into it with an equaliser 10 mins later, to leave the sides level at half time.

After 6 mins of the second half, it was 2-2. Castleknock scored first to make it 2-1 with Dave Costello's free going straight in but Clondalkin made it 2-2 almost immediately. Clondalakin then started to get on top and would have taken the lead only for Paddy Dunne making a brilliant one handed save.

Castleknock made a couple of changes and it seemed to do the trick. For the last 20 mins the home side were the better team winning all the 50-50 challenges all over the pitch. Eventually Castleknock got the crucial chance with Silviu Aghnita getting the final touch for what turned out to be the winner. Castleknock celebrated their progress into the next round. This was an excellent win for Castleknock and everyone played their part but special mention must go to the defence of captain Graham Fennell, Shane Dunne, Dave Costello and Ray Kelly, all of whom played schoolboy football with Castleknock Celtic.
