Scott Brace secures points
Last week Summer, this week Winter…………yes that’s Ireland but thankfully the hallowed turf in Porterstown was playable. Castleknock were back at time for the first time in a month. After some mixed performances Celtic finally found their groove last week and hoped to build on that performance as they welcomed old foes Collinstown who sat third in the table making the outcome difficult to call.
Playing with a strong wind was the away side who started the better although the defensive trio of Arnass, Henry and Jaden restricted Collinstown to long range efforts. Celtic gradually got to grips with the elements as Luke Hughes and Ryan Sherlock began to control midfield and midway through the half when Luke split open the defence with a through ball where Phelim Scott got the better of the centre back to power home. (see goal). 1-0 up and Castleknock started to play with Catalin La Bont linking well with the dynamic duo of Harry O’ Reilly and Phelim. Soon it was 2-0. Ryan’s long throw found Phelim who literally juggled the ball before planting the ball home for his and Castleknock’s second. HT: 2-0.
With the wind at their backs one would have expected Celtic to capitalise but Collinstown had other ideas as they started to dominate. Celtic were getting the better chances but it was Collinstown dominating and with 10 minutes left got the goal their play deserved albeit Celtic will be far from happy with their lapse in concentration. 2-1 and game on. Collinstown threw everything at Celtic but with Arnass & Jaden in top form it was the home team that hung on for the barrow victory. FT: 2-1
This was far from a vintage performance and the Castleknock Coaches will be unhappy with another poor second half performance following a strong first half. Let’s be clear Collinstown deserved a share of the spoils but while the performance may not have been 5 star no one could detract from the home teams resilience and for sure Phelim’s two strikes were worthy to win any game. So our Young Celts continue to march on and climb the table. They are a threat to any team and if they can continue to develop they can be in the mix at the end of the season. Well done lads
