The warning signs were there from the start that St John Bosco would be a tough nut to crack in Porterstown Park, and they would not be helped by the absence of their talisman Marcus and stout full back Kenan Tutundzuc, and so it turned out to be.
Bosco had early chances but it was Celtic who went in front after 15 minutes. An exchange of passes in the middle of the park between James Cremin and Dawide Nycz ended with James striking a beautiful shot past the visiting keeper.
Bosco bounced back and went ahead 3-1. Celtic responded through James and it was 2-3 at half time.
There was a change of referee at half time as there were complaints about the vapour that had gathered in the air during that first half !!
Bosco went further ahead after the restart as their firepower began to assert itself. Celtic did not give up, and they had their chances. Seb and Kevin were battling at the back, while Ollie Moore came to bolster the defence. Joe Martin was operating on the left of midfield and was enjoying his new role laying off some chances for the forward players. Andrew Maguire was again showing fine touches and setting up chances for Dawide and James. Sadjo was combining well with his midfield team mates. Rhys McLoughlin was working hard in the middle while also combining with team mates on the left hand side. James was lethal when he got the space, and he clocked up a total of 4 goals today. He was helped by team mates, especially Dawide, Joe and Andrew whose creativity helped to set up the chances.
On another day, such a performance would have got a result, but concession of 7 goals meant the victory was with Bosco. The one man we have left out of the report so far is Niall Maloney. He was yet again superb in goal. He made innumerable saves with all parts of his anatomy. He deserves full credit and had to be given the man of the match award, though James ran him close with his exquisite display of goal scoring.
Well done boys, see you Monday 6pm at our new venue for training, Abbotstown National Sports Campus all weather pitch.
