Dalkey hit for Six but scoreline flatters Celtic
While the rain had come down early in the morning, by the time our young heroes arrived in Dalkey the Sun was shining and the pitch looked perfect. Dalkey Utd were the hosts and a good crowd was on hand to watch the two sets of gladiators take to the pitch.
Celtic started like an express train and it was no surprise when Celtic took the lead. Luke Hughes’ corner was met by the on running Tara O’ Hanlon whose shot was going over the line just as goal poacher, Abdullah Boujerdha, met it on the line to ensure the goal. Minutes later it was two as Abdullah again provided the finish following fine work by Andre Ungureanu. One feared for Dalkey but there was no reason as it was they who upped their game and for the last quarter of an hour of the first half the game was played in the Celtic half. HT: 2-0
The Coaches reminded their charges that this game was far from over and told them they needed to work harder. The advice was taken as Celtic went on the attack and within minutes it was 3-0 as Esse Okirikpo sprung the offside trap from Ryan Sherlock’s through ball and finished in style. Back came Dalkey and this time they got their reward when their striker finished well. 3-1. Dalkey were lifted and pushed for a second and more than once Celtic were thankful to the defensive work of Sherlock and, in particular, Denys Yaskersy. Esse eased Celtic’s nerves when he got his second following good work from “Maccer” Mc Gregor and Tara O’ Hanlon before, minutes later, the Esse “Express” completed his hat- trick with another tidy finish. 5-1. With minutes to go Big Ryan scored the goal of the game. Max to Ryan, first time to Andre, Andre goes down the line before squaring to the on running Ryan who touched home. FT: 6-1
A 6-1 win but the scoreline flattered Celtic and was unfair to Dalkey who battled the whole way through and shared the possession 50/50 with Celtic. This was not Celtic’s best performance but on the other hand there were some wonderful passages of play and if you score six not playing your best, well you can’t be too bad. Special mention to Denys who had his best game of the season thus far. Keep it up Denys and well done to all.
