“Radio Nova make the music but it’s Hat-trick hero Cat who jumps to the beat”
After an unbeaten start and 3 games on the road Castleknock were, or more correctly their Parents were, happy to finally have a home game on what was, dare I say it, a beautiful Summers (YES SUMMER) Day. The visitors were Howth Celtic who standing just one place above Castleknock would provide a real test for our motley crew. With sponsors Radio Nova making a surprise visit and new Coach , Tony O’ Leary, in attendance the pressure was on to give a good performance.
The early exchanges were even with both defences in commanding form although it was Howth who carried the greater threat with some long range efforts fizzing just over. As they seem to do every week Castleknock upped a gear and made the breakthrough. The ball was played out left to Esse who hit an exquisite cross field pass to Catalin LaBont who powered the ball home with a right footed drive across the goal and past the keeper. 1-0. Catalin nearly made it two following a lovely one-two with Abdullah Boujerdha. Not to be denied Catalin scored his and Castleknocks second following good play by James Browne and Tara O’ Hanlon. HT:2-0.
With JB now pulling the strings in midfield Castleknock looked in control but Howth had not made the trip over for fun. Back they came and pressure told when Celtic conceded what can only be described as a soft penalty. Up stepped their midfielder to slot the ball home with the confidence of a real pro. 2-1 and GAME ON. Howth upped the pace and took the game to Castleknock but the home defence of Ryan Sherlock and Ben Forde never flinched. With players tiring under the hot Sun gaps began to appear and everyone sensed that the next goal would be decisive. Celtic won a corner thanks to great battling from Andre Ungareanu. Abdullah swung it over. The ball was cleared to the edge of the box to, who else but, Catalin who volleyed home into the roof of the net and off he went as the rest of the team tried to catch him to celebrate. Catlin goal action What a goal and what a way to complete a wonderful hatrick!!! With time running out, try as they did ,Howth just could not get back into the game as Castleknock triumphed in this Battle of the Celts. FT: 3-1.
In truth Castleknock did not play their best football today but perhaps credit is due to the hard working Howth men. Both teams gave their all today and it was only the quality finishing by Castleknock, and in particular the clinical Catalin, that separated these well matched teams. What a week for Catalin. Last week he stepped in goals for the injured Max making a crucial save at 0-0 in the process then, this week, he is made Captain and proceeds to score as good a hat-trick as you will see. And how fitting it was that team sponsors, RADIO NOVA, were in attendance to see young Catalin and his team mates put in a match winning performance. Our appreciation to RADIO NOVA not just for sponsoring the lads but for giving the lads a ride in the NOVA Hummer before the Nova crew went toe to toe with our Celts on the pitch. I won’t say who won but let’s just say it was the Celts who had the best beats on the pitch. Well done lads, well done and thank you Radio Nova.
