The 11E were outgunned in Porterstown by their clubmates on the 11B1 Sunday. The final score flattered the B1 side as the E team had been very close to taking the lead in the first half. They went into the break all square at 0-0 despite both sides having many chances to score. Patrick O’Reilly had the best chance but Callum Ward saved splendidly from the E team striker. Michael Kelly had worked hard up front to try and make a break through. At the other end, Daniel Cryan made a superb top class save to keep the sides scoreless. Denis Diac and Sam Kelly had to be on their toes to do their part to prevent the opponents scoring. Edward Nuzum was amazing with his contribution, a dynamo working from box to box. Anthony Cooke was again giving 100 per cent for the cause, and went within a whisker of putting his team in front. Brierton Murphy was fearless with his tackling, and with Andrew McGee working tirelessly, helped to keep the opposition at bay.
The game continued to be entertaining in the second half. The Es were still threatening, and with Sean Ogbomo now adding his presence to the attack, it looked that they might produce a surprise. However, the B1 team stepped up a gear and their clinical finishing was top class. Matei Domsa was again having a great game that made him a challenger for the man of the match. But the lethal striking by the 11B1 proved the difference between the teams in the end.
There was a consolation for the Es late on when on being awarded a penalty, Patrick O’Reilly, who was today's man of the match, stepped up to the plate and shot low and hard to the keeper’s right. While the scoreline was 5-1 in the end, it is flattering to the winners who had been pushed hard for long periods of the game.
There is now a break until the middle of January and the players will be urged to take advantage of the break, either resting injuries or if free of injury, practising on aspects of their game. Happy Christmas to all, and a New Year that will bring peace and prosperity.
