Celtic made 4 without loss at home to Ratoath Harps in a tight game. Harps competed throughout and maintained parity until the 40th minute. Davy Costelloe, who was causing a lot of problems for the Harps defence, got possession on the left hand side and jinked past the defender and his shot was parried into the path of Jamie Traynor (action) who seized on his opportunity to make it 1-0 which was how they stood at half time. Harps had gone very close themselves in that first half, but Celtic through good defending and some good fortune had kept their goal intact. (more action)
Harps upped their game in the second half and threatened to get the equaliser and Paddy Dunne had to be at his best in the Celtic goal. John McGarrity put in a big shift in front of the back 4. Celtic were very dangerous on the break and one such attack on the right hand side saw Keith McDarby break forward and deliver a cracking cross that Jamie Traynor was unlucky not to get the decisive touch. However, Keith’s short corner did give Cian Daly the chance to set up Jamie for his second (action), and the big striker made no mistake his header.
So Celtic put themselves in a strong position just one point behind league leaders Doddervale, but the Castleknock side have 2 games in hand.
