29/8/17: Celtic were again in the mood in this Leinster Senior League game in the new Brickfields all weather pitch in Drimnagh against Yellowstone Celtic. Having put 5 past Valeview Shankill the previous Friday, they almost doubled that in tonight's game.
It was an evenly contested game for the first 25 minutes, but Castleknock got to grips with the Yellowstone defence which were to be destroyed by the speed of the visitors and their accurate passing. The home defence did not help their cause by leaving so much space behind their back line.
The next 10 minutes however totally changed the course of the game. Cillian Daly struck from 25 yards and it flashed past the Yellowstone keeper. Two minutes later Niall Conran jinked past the defender in the left full back position and crossed to the head of Eoghan Farrell who powered his header past the keeper. Eoghan was again on the mark when he was fed from a free by Kevin Keane and the midfielder shot past the keeper from 22 yards. Cillian Daly got his reward on 35 minutes when he hit a sublime shot into the net. It looked over at this stage.
Yellowstone to their credit did pull one back before half time. It could have been 6-1 if Jamie Traynor had gotten any bit of luck as two of his efforts came back off the woodwork. HT 4-1.
The second half was even more one sided as the home defence could not cope with the precision passing of the Celtic midfield. Time after time the ball inside the defenders proved decisive.
Eight minutes into the half Niall Conran picked his spot and it was 5-1. There was a fallow period for the next 15 minutes until Niall struck again. Sean 'Tipper' McGarrity got in on the act and seized on a lovely cross from the right to beat the keeper. Tipper then turned provider when he delivered the perfect ball inside the centre half and the speedy Conran, who was man of the match, scored the goal of the night when he chipped the advancing keeper to complete his hat-trick. He was again set up for his fourth goal, this time by David Lacey who emulated Tipper with a killer ball into the path of Niall.
An entertaining game ended with a chorus of happy birthday for Jamie, but unfortunately his luck was out tonight. There will be much stiffer tests for Celtic, including especially in the FAI Junior Cup in September.
