19A: Prior to this match against the league leaders, Lakelands, Celtic still had an outside chance of league honours. However, they would have to secure 3 points and then depend on other results going their way. The match was a hastily arranged one as the original opposition for both teams weren’t able to fulfil the planned fixtures.
Celtic travelled to Sandyford with just 12 players and for much of the first half were a match for Lakelands. Scoring chances in the first half were minimal with neither goalkeeper called upon to make a save.
Five minutes into the second half, Lakelands seized on one of the first scoring opportunities of the game to go 1 – 0 up. Celtic heads didn’t drop and following some fine play by leading goal scorer, Ciaran Buggy they were back on level terms 5 minutes later. However, 3 goals within 10 minutes from Lakelands ensured that they would secure all three points and probably the league title too. They rounded off the game with a fifth goal just before the final whistle.
