“Fast & Furious Celtic hit Shels for Six ”
Following the Easter break Castleknock welcomed Shelbourne to Porterstown. Castleknock have had an unbeaten start to the season but have yet to hit the level they will need to be at if they are to have any chance of getting themselves in the mix for honours this season. Thus far, Celtic have had an injury list as long as your arm and while Eric Hannon returned to the fray after 2 months out, Mark Hughes and Lloyd Turner were out leaving Celtic again short of their full squad.
Celtic started as if they meant business creating early chances for Sean Blood and Leigh Reilly. The breakthrough came after 10 minutes. The ball was played out left before Dylan Mc Donagh swept the ball in from the left, falling to Nathan O’ Reilly who powered home.1-0. Shels sought to strike back but were met by the immovable force that was the Celtic defence superbly marshalled by Sean Daly. With twenty minutes on the clock Celtic doubled their lead when Reilly finished well from Sean Blood’s pass. Minutes later it was three. Celtic defended a corner with the ball played early to Reilly on the right. Reilly sped past his marker before squaring to Blood who swept the ball into the net. 3-0. There was no let up for Shelbourne, Blood nearly made it four after a lovely exchange of passes involving Antonio Neto, O’ Reilly and Reilly saw Blood, following a run to the back post, head the ball back across goal over the keeper but just over the bar. Shortly after Nathan made it four (click for goal) and on the stroke of half time Lethal Leigh made it five following one of the passes of the season from Luke O’ Flaherty. HT: 5-0
The second half mirrored the first. Shelbourne always looking to play football but being pinned back by a rampant Celtic. Nathan and Leigh both came close to their hat-tricks before Ciaran Collins went on one of his mazy runs, bursting into the box before driving the ball across the goal just wide of the far post. In the last minute Antonio Neto scored a lovely goal with his left foot which was due reward for his endeavours all day. FT: 6-0
Shelbourne to their credit never stopped and kept trying to play their passing football but were unfortunate to meet Celtic on the day they turned in a five star performance. This was a great team performance with some fine individual display most notably from Sean B, Sean D, Nathan and Antonio. A special mention for Eric Hannon. Two months out with a cruciate injury, he returned to-day to boss the midfield - never flinching a tackle, he was everywhere – with a performance that was an inspiration to his team mates. All in all a good day's work. Well done Eric, well done all. Watching Captain, Mark Hughes, applauded his team mates off the pitch and he was joined by the watching Celtic faithful.
