Celtic welcomed league leaders and their old rivals Liffey Valley Rangers to Porterstown Park. Home side lost their first choice goalkeeper Sabin Ghet to illness just before the match. Olti Berisha did not hesitate and he went in as a replacement. The hosts started lively and after only a few minutes they wasted a great chance when James Caffrey saw his shot go wide. Liffey Valley played some very good football and caused a few problems to Celtic defence, but captain Sam Doherty and his defensive partner Proinsias de Bhatúin defended absolutely brilliantly. Full backs Luka and Kacem provided extra protection. Special mention goes to Olti for pulling off some great saves and denying the visitors an early lead.
However, it was the away team that took the lead after a corner. The ball was played to the back post where it was calmly put in the net by Rangers striker.
In the second half Celtic pushed forward but were unable to breach a very solid Rangers defence. It was the away team who went 2-0 up after 10 minutes into second period. The ball was played from the right wing into the box where it wasn't cleared.
The home team had to open up and try to get back into the game. They changed the formation to 3-5-2 and they had soon pulled one goal back. Some great combination play by midfielders Robert Best and Dino Dervisic resulted in Sean Odusole hammering the volley into the top corner for 1-2. On the left side Klevis Malaj combined with Alex McCormick and Ciaran Murray who caused big problems for the Rangers defence. Hard work paid off, and with 5 minutes to go, big James placed the ball in the bottom corner for 2-2. Both teams had a great chance to win the game in the last couple of minutes but were denied by great goalkeeping. Olti Berisha produced a man of the match performance.
