Castleknock Celtic u10 in Division B hosted Esker FC in a breathtaking encounter in Porterstown Park that finished in a 4–4 draw.
As on many occasion the visitors took the lead with a well deserve goal by their number 10 But shortly after Celtic geared up and after two stunning saves by the Esker keeper the Celtic boys found the way to the goal with skipper Alex Murgatroyd, he kept the cool to round the defense and netted the ball in the goal. Few minutes had past and Yousaf Shah put Celtic in front with a perfect diagonal kick from the right. Celtic looked comfortable at this stage with Donnacha Collins, Rory Carberry and Cillian Murray clearing the ball to safety when danger lurked. Esker which is a very combative team almost found the net if it was not for a notable hand ball that saved Celtic this time and the goal was not counted.
The intensity of the second half was second to none with the game fast swinging from end to end and chances continued to come and go. Without any doubt the two opposite Goalkeepers were the stars of the match with Brion McGrath manning the goal for Castleknock Celtic.
In all fairness Esker came back in the second half with much determination, their play was calculated moving the ball from side to side exploiting space, it inevitably led them to two earning two goals in quick succession.
This was the second wakeup call of the match for Celtic and yes, they did roar back hitting the left post, followed by two fine shoots that Esker’s Keeper impressively stopped. This was only temporary as Jake Sheehan, Yousaf Shah and Luke Simmonds caused havoc in the visitors’ defence …and in the end Luke struck a killer goal from the left side after outpacing the defense.
Esker was not in the mood to defend the result and quickly got another goal on the counter attacked. Cristian Larini, now in goal for Celtic bravely saved the initial shoot but the rebound was not in Celtic favour and the ball rolled over the line.
Some thought that this would be enough for Esker with only few minutes remaining, but Celtic kept composure and created three more chances before equalizing one minute to the end of regular time.
Coach and spectators were overjoyed to have assisted such a thrilling game, a strong performance all players can be proud of.
